Went to the SF MOMA today. I think Kota enjoyed all the visual stimuli. We don’t have actual photos because cameras weren’t allowed. I really liked the Jeff Wall exhibit. His photos are very painterly. I didn’t have time to read up on how he does it, but I imagine it must involve hours and hours of compositing/editing. To our very pleasant surprise, admission to the museum was FREE that day, thanks to Oracle. We spent our freed up cash by going to the coffee shop where we had a coffee latte and a chocolate croissant.

Went to the Oakland Zoo today. I think Kota enjoyed the elephants most. Actually I think they were the only animals big enough to catch his attention, which was usually focused on other things like the bushes, the trees, the people walking by.

Kota’s a happy boy, learning everyday about the world he lives in. Here are some photos at the 5 month mark:

Yesterday Kota started crawling a little and look how much he can crawl today!!!

All this may change by next week, but so far this is what we know for sure about Kota:

1. He likes Norah Jones, especially the song “Cold Cold Heart” on her Come Away With Me album. If it’s bedtime and he’s wide awake, or if he wakes up at night and we can’t stop him from crying, all we have to do is put this song on and he calms down and falls asleep. This is one of the first songs I learned so that I could sing to him, and I would play the song while I sang along, so this probably has something to do with it.

2. The kid is active. He loves jumping and doing a stationary “giddyup.”

3. He likes being around lots of people. When people try to talk to him or hold him, he lights up and smiles. A lot!
