One Hundred Years of Solitude

by Gabriel García Márquez

This is one of those gems you occasionally stumble across if you’re lucky. I remember reading this book on the train ride to and from work when I was living in Japan. What a luxury it was to have a decent block of time each day to really get into it, and being on the train was nice, too, whizzing by buildings and city lights. It was summertime. I remember I’d have to stop at moments because the experience was too much. I’d look up from the page I was reading and look out the window, lost in a reverie. Thought I’d read this again and hope to read more of García Márquez’s writing.

The way you describe this book makes me want to give it another try.

Well, don’t feel like you have to read it. I used to be a book snob, but no more. If you can’t connect with the book, put it down and don’t feel bad. There’s no such thing as a must-read book. Well, maybe there are a few… Anyways, I’m going to branch out into other books like biographies and non-fiction. Great thing about biographies is it really happened!!
